Laser and LED Therapy
Light therapy–also known as photobiomodulation–uses specific wavelengths of light in the visible and near infrared spectrum to increase circulation, reduce inflammation, treat acute and chronic pain, and accelerate wound healing and tissue regeneration
Laser Therapy for Pain, Injuries, and “Laser Acupuncture”
At our Oakland acupuncture clinic, we offer treatment with a Class IIIB cold laser in combination with acupuncture to facilitate the body’s healing. Cold laser (which actually emits a very gentle warmth) stimulates the mitochondria in the body’s cells–this increases blood flow, decreases inflammation and swelling, and enhances tissue healing. Cold laser may be included as part of your acupuncture treatment when it is indicated.
We also offer “laser acupuncture” treatment for patients who are fearful of needles or for those who prefer not to receive traditional acupuncture treatment. In laser acupuncture, points on the body are stimulated with laser light instead of needles, which has been shown to elicit similar effects in the regions of the brain stimulated by acupuncture needling.
Celluma LED for Wrinkles, Acne, and Pain
Celluma is a light emitting diode (LED) device that has been FDA cleared to treat a variety of skin and pain conditions. The UV-free light is safe to use over your face–it feels like lying on the beach on a sunny day.
In LED phototherapy, your cells absorb photons of light from the Celluma device and transform their energy into ATP, which is the energy that cells use for repair and regeneration. For example, fibroblast cells will increase collagen and elastin production to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in our skin. Other wavelengths are used to kill acne-causing bacteria or to reduce inflammation.
For Griffin Acupuncture’s cosmetic acupuncture patients, Celluma light therapy is included in your treatment.
